What Meat Can Do to a Teen’s Body

Between the ages of 13 – 19 our bodies go through a large period of maturity and growth, so it’s important that they eat the proper food and get the right quantity of nutrients to help sustain these differences.

Studies show teens across the UK usually have low consumptions of important vitamins and minerals because of poor diet, and this can lead to difficulties like acne, tiredness, heavy/light periods, and even impact your behavior. So how can meat help?

Proper quality meat (think steak, not burgers) is a great source of nutrients essential to the diet, such as protein, iron, zinc and vitamins A, B2, B6 and B12, to name a few. Below are some of the reasons why meat consumption is important to among adolescents.

1.       Skin and Hair – Red meat includes Riboflavin (vitamin B2), which aids in keeping skin well, by helping your skin strengthen and rejuvenated faster. Zinc is another element found in red meat; it adds to the preservation of fine hair. If you think your hair looks a little lean, try a beef stir-fry a go!

2.       Brain boost – Iron, seen in red meat, helps to ward off tiredness, not having enough iron affects our mental state. Red meat is also rich in B6, which allows our brain to function regularly; that said, why not give a burger a try prior to your next exam. Try cooking a steak at home with the best steak knife .

3.       Health– A steak, or your mum’s shepherd’s pie, is an excellent source of protein; this allows our bodies to develop muscle, but also allows us to feel fuller for a long time. Niacin is another great nutrient obtained from red meat, which allows the body to acquire energy from food, making you feel more healthy and energized.

4.       Periods – Several people are aware that, red meat contains Iron. Women lose iron when they are on their periods, this is why we usually end up feeling so tired. Increase your iron levels with some lamb fajitas when you’re feeling a little lazy around during that time of the month.
